Freecycle

Everyone must be aware of recycling within the Borough, but this process still involves the transport of materials which are then reprocessed or put into landfill.

Freecycle is a free and easy to use community group that has over 100,000 members in the UK.

The concept is easy. Rather than throw things away why not give them to someone who has a need for them?

The group is run by email and involves nothing more than emailing the group with what you are giving away and then waiting for the replies. You can also post wanted ads too.

It sounds unbelievable but there are over 20,000 members in London posting some 3,000 messages a month. Because of the sheer scale of the London-wide group it is being split into more manageable borough groups and Ealing and Acton is one of the first.

The London Freecycle Café

This is open to all, whether or not they are members of London Freecycle™ .  Café members can give and get help, and give and take free services and intangible items. You can share information and community resources or have a friendly chat among like-minded (or differently-minded, but interesting) people, advertise community events or recruit volunteers.

There are lots of links, some local, some to help make the most of your money, some just generally useful and some about recycling and the environment, and a skills exchange database has just been started.  For more information go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Londons_freecycle_cafe
