Ealing Broadway needs a bus station or at least a convenient purpose-designed interchange.
Hammersmith got a bus station in the 1970s when the island site round the District & Piccadilly Line station was re-developed. This included a shopping arcade beside the District line with a bus station on top.
Ealing has an opportunity with the re-development of the Arcadia site by Glenkerrin. I think we should push for a bus interchange beside this new development which is large enough for all the buses which use Haven Green. After all it is already in the Supplementary Planning Guidance to the UDP of 2004
The current situation in Haven Green is that there are 20 spaces marked on the road for buses. This is made up of 10 pick up places, 8 standing places and 2 set-down only places. Buses starting off in the same direction do not all pick up from the same stop causing frustration for passengers. Finally, to get from the station to some of the bus stops can take a long time and be unpleasant in the rain.
Move the diagonal road
across Haven Green to be a westbound bus road on the south of Haven Green.
Then add to this an
eastbound bus road on the old BBC car park.
The effect of this proposal will be to put all the buses together and free up other space currently used by buses. There would be spare road space on the east of Haven Green which could be added to the green. The net result would be a slightly larger Haven Green than at present.
Glenkerrin have bought the BBC car park and want to develop it. This should be resisted as it will stop any chance of having a proper bus station.
It is unreasonable to expect Glenkerrin to pay for 100%. Money should also come from other developers and from TfL.
