Science Museum, South Kensington
Did
you know that the Science Museum is open for adults only between 18.45 and 22.00
on the last Wednesday of each month? It’s a chance to have a look round in
relatively quiet conditions, and you don’t have to fight small children for a go
on the hands-on stuff. There’s always a variety of activities on offer, catering
for all tastes and ranging from talks on the topic of the month to speed dating
and a silent disco.
The
theme for October Lates should be of particular interest, as it’s the Science of
Climate Change. Find out more at http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/visitmuseum/events/events_for_adults/Lates.aspx
Things
to look out for on any visit to the museum, Late or not: Climate science is
explored in the permanent exhibition in the Atmosphere Gallery, and
another offering, Energy: Fuelling the Future is also worth having a look
at. It’s advertised as being perfect for children aged 7-14 but adults can also
enjoy interactive games such as Energy Shutdown and World Energy: You’re in
Charge. The exhibition Ten Climate Stories takes a long view of our
climate-changing worlds, where all is not what it seems.
A
new exhibition, Water wars: fight the food crisis investigates how
engineers are developing new technologies to secure enough water to prevent a
global food crisis. It takes a huge amount of water to grow food, and supplies
are dwindling because of poor management, increasing demand and our changing
climate. We need to act fast to secure enough water – and food – for the
future. You can learn more about
these technologies - and try your skill at using them to capture fresh water and
keep your rising population alive – at http://antenna.sciencemuseum.org.uk/waterwars/
