The ‘Local Development Framework’ (LDF) is the strategic plan for the borough of Ealing. See council web site:   http://www2.ealing.gov.uk/services/environment/planning/planning_policy/local_development_framework/guide/ .  

The LDF is a prime consideration in the determination of any planning application and is thus crucially important in determining how the borough develops.

 

We submitted responses to the consultation drafts of the plan and have been invited to take part at several hearings of the ‘Examination in Public’: http://www2.ealing.gov.uk/services/environment/planning/planning_policy/local_development_framework/development_strategy/examination_in_public/index.html 

 

We are very concerned that the over-riding policy in the LDF is to cram 14,000 housing units and 20,000 more people into the borough by 2025. Unfortunately, there is no corresponding plan to improve infrastructure such as schools, hospitals and transport. There are policies in the LDF on these but they are largely hope and aspiration, with no evidence that the requisite infrastructure will actually be provided.

 

We are also very concerned that there is:

  • no target or coherent plan on climate change
  • no plan to bring air pollution within UK and EU limits
  • no plan to address water and light pollution
  • no reference to citizenship
  • inadequate strategies for open space, trees and biodiversity

 

We have the same concerns about open space as the Brent River & Canal Society and Ealing Wildlife.We have therefore joined forces with these groups to present our evidence.
