Sustainable Communities Bill
This Bill, which had its second reading in Parliament in January, aims to reverse what has been called “Ghost Town Britain”, the decline of local economic activity, jobs, shops, facilities, services and environments with the knock-on effects that these matters cause.
It sets up a participation (as distinct from consultation) process in which local councils and local communities can drive government actions and policy – i.e. tell government what help they need to reverse Ghost Town Britain and promote local sustainability – and which the government (with some limited exceptions) will have to provide.
