London Green Funeral Exhibition
Saturday 28 April, 10.30 - 4pm
Conway Hall, Red Lion Square WC1 (tube Holborn)
The UK Day of the Dead is inspired by the Mexican Dia de Muertos – a festival of welcome, a time of feasting and reunion, and the most important celebration of the year.
Traditionally of course the Day of the Dead is celebrated on 31 October, the eve of All Saints' Day. However, the Natural Death Centre holds its Day of the Dead in springtime when the burgeoning of life all around us seems to help us in our endeavours to remember the dead and to contemplate our own mortality. Spring offers us a metaphor for hope and perseverance.
The UK Day of the Dead is now held annually on one weekend in April. This year it will be part of the London Green Funeral Exhibition
The principal guest speaker will be Julia Hailes, author of The New Green Consumer Guide (to be published by Simon & Schuster, May 2007). There will also be a short talk by Jamie Oliver, author of “Get Dead”, a panel discussion "How Practical is a Green Funeral?", poetry readings. and an exhibition of art and photography.

Nationally there is a co-ordinated Open Day at many of the UK's natural burial grounds - places where eco-friendly burial takes place in a biodegradable coffin or shroud, and a tree or wild flowers take the place of manmade memorials. People are invited to take tours of these sites and chat with the owners. A list of sites will appear on the Natural Death Centre's website shortly
