Disposal of Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs
Footnote to last month's newsletter piece : EFoE member Sue Kendrick has been in contact with Ealing Council's recycling team about this. She had asked one of the assistants at the Greenford depot who did not seem very sure about whether the depot accepted these items. She also mentioned that on her visit she had to queue for some while and could not see any signage encouraging drivers to turn off their engines whilst waiting. In reply, the Recycling Administrator said:
“Fluorescent tubes and lighting can indeed be taken to Greenford Re-use and Recycling Centre where they will be recycled. This is presently the only facility we offer for these materials due to their hazardous nature. I will ensure that all members of staff at the Re-use and Recycling Centre are reminded of this.
With regards to engines being switched off this is definitely something we will consider implementing especially during summer months when the Re-use and Recycling Centres are particularly busy. It is obviously our aim to encourage recycling and care for the environment and switching off engines would be a very useful strategy to adopt. I am aware that some schools across the borough have implemented signs encouraging motorists to switch off their engines in order to reduce pollution and CO2 emissions. I will present your suggestions at the next Recycling Team meeting as I feel you have a very valid point.”
So if you go to Greenford depot look to see if they have taken this idea on board.
