Ealing
Fairtrade Fortnight Fair
Saturday 7 March 11am – 5pm in
Christ the Saviour Church Hall, Ealing Broadway W5
This event will feature a wide range of high
quality Fairtrade and fairly traded food, drink, clothes, accessories,
jewellery, crafts and homewares from around the world.
There will also be a Fairtrade fashion parade, and an attempt at the world record for the largest number of Fairtrade bananas eaten over a 24-hour period. Why bananas? Because, says Fairtrade, they symbolise the challenges in international trade. Many people who grow and harvest bananas endure unacceptable working conditions, including the suppression of independent trade unions. Their local environment is often ruined by toxic chemicals and intensive farming. Currently one in four bananas bought in the UK is Fairtrade. The aim is to increase this to one out of two by 2012.
