October
Meeting (AGM)
At the AGM , Jules Tennick replaced Mike Tyzack as Coordinator; Catharine Browne continues as Treasurer and Virginia Fassnidge continues as Chair.
We took the
opportunity to look back over the year. Because we hadn’t gone all out on either
of the main FoE campaigns (Get Serious and Food Chain) there was a feeling that
we hadn’t been doing much; however, as soon as we began to list all the things
we had done we realised that we had in fact been very
busy.
We had a stall
in Ealing Broadway Centre last autumn to publicise the Renewables Campaign, and
during 2009 we collected signatures for Get Serious and the Food Chain at
various venues, including Ealing Farmers’ Market. We had stalls at Hanwell
Carnival, Ealing Homes Fun Day and CAPE (Community Action Project Ealing) Fun
Day, and jointly with Brentford & Hounslow FoE we attended Sonic Recycler at
Watermans, Osterley Day, and Brentford Festival.
We didn’t
attempt much fundraising this year; however, we took just over £26 at Sonic
Recycler, nearly £40 at Brentford Festival and last month a car boot sale netted
us over £67.
EFoE members
took part in two huge events, the National Climate March in December and the
March for Jobs, Justice and the Climate in March, as well as several demos
concerning the expansion of Heathrow.
A speaker from
Food not Fuel came to one of our meetings to talk about biofuels, and
subsequently EFoE helped with the Food Not Fuel / Biofuelwatch campaign against
the proposed biofuel plant in Southall.
At another
meeting a speaker from CAG Consultants gave us information about the West London
Waste Plan and collected our responses as part of the
consultation.
EFoE submitted
a response to consultation on the plans for the Arcadia
Centre.
Members
attended various FoE events, including the Local Groups
Conference.
Besides all
this, we had two enjoyable social evenings, one at the New Inn in South Ealing
in December, and another in August at Crispins Wine Bar on Ealing Green, and
several of us went to the local People’s Premiere of the film “Age of Stupid”.
There may well be other things we did over the course of the year, but the above list goes to show that we have been pretty active.
